Thira - The Lost Kingdom of Atlantis
Santorini (Thira) is the most unique island among all Cycladesislands.
This is one of my favorite islands in Greece. Just as many people, I was
attracted by Santorini's history (this island is widely believed to be
a candidate for the lost kingdom of Atlantis) and by its unique landscape.
There was volcanic eruption that took place in 1450BC, and this eruption
created crescent shape island. Santorini got its charm; magnificent view
from the lip of the caldera (particularly from Oia village) is something
that I have difficulty expressing its beauty in any language. I simply
like its tranquility, especially in Sunday morning (when there are not
many tourists around). When I first visited Oia village many years ago,
there weren't so many houses as it is today. Now, Oia became one of the
most popular spot not only for tourists but among Greeks who live in a
big city like Athens. Houses are nicely (and colorfully) painted. The entire
village seems like an art exhibition.
