 The Cyclades --- The Circle
My favorite part of Greece is certainly the Cyclades. I love its culture and people. The name is derived from the word “kyklos (circle)”. These islands consist of: Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Delos, Syros, Kea, Kythnos, Serifos, Sifnos, Paros, Naxos, Amorgos, Ios, Sikinos, Folegandros, Milos, and Santorini. One of the most popular routes by boat is the one which leaves Piraeus and stops at Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, and Santorini on the way to Iraklion (Crete). Now, there are speed boats which leave Rafina (instead of Pireus). But as those who have traveled Cyclades islands by boats may know, speed boat schedules are subject to a rapidly changing weather. Even during the summer time, I experienced one occasion in which no ship was moving due to a strong wind. Lucky enough, I was in Santorini -- the island with may attractions. It is so incredible to sit in the coffee shop on the edge of caldera, watching the ocean facing caldera. It does not matter how bad the weather is, the ocean facing caldera is so quiet and always maintains its tranquility.
